2400 metres of climbing. Waiting at the tops.
Setting off at 08:15 from the 7-11 across the road from
Musashi-Itsukaichi station. Suggested train: the ホリデー快速あきがわ1号 (Horidē
kaisoku Akigawa ichigō), which is the front one third -- the
car(riage)s with the highest numbers -- of a JR train leaving Shinjuku
at 06:46. If you're in the correct car(riage), you'll arrive at
Musashi-Itsukaichi at 07:55. (The train divides into two at Haijima
station; its longer half goes to Okutama station, which you don't
want. Other stops and times for this train:

We'll have to beware of debris on the road after heavy rain, and
there'll be some light drizzle during the day. If this threatens to
turn to rain, some bail-out points are:
25 km: to Okutama station
58 km: to Uenohara station
62 km: to Fujino station
69 km: to Sagamiko station
As long as there's no major problem, we should end up at Takao station
(Chūō and Keiō lines) at around 3.
Bring a spare inner tube, maybe two; maybe even a spare tyre. And
ziplocs for your banknotes etc. Check that your brakes are in good
nick.

person: Peter Evans
