Bikers!

Fine autumn cycling weather this weekend. (about 18 degrees, some rain Sunday), so lets put foot to pedal and take advantage of it.

I’ll lead the usual Odaiba easy ride on Saturday, while Peter has something planned out Kazahari Rindo way. Sunday it may rain sporadically. And for the Monday holiday I’ll do a little run out to Kasai Rinkai.

Saturday Odaiba Beginners’

Start at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills at 11:00 a.m. for our traditional 30-km ride out to the beach in the bay. Back by 2:30 at the latest. Forecast is for mellow with occasional beers. Leader: me.

Saturday Kazahari rindō and more

Mostly up and down: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/31391396

We set off at 08:30 from the 7-11 across the road from Musashi
Itsukaichi station.

(Train from Shinjuku: Take the 06:58 whose destination is Ōme. Arrive
at 08:16 at Musashi Itsukaichi [the terminus of your second train], by
changing from the Ōme train either at Tachikawa [07:44 departure] or
at Akishima [07:53 departure].)

At the Tachibana T-junction (9 km), normal people turn left but we
turn right and go up to Kazahari pass (1146 metres) the most memorable
way.

And there's more: just look at the map and see for yourself. Yes,
RwGPS tends to exaggerate, but you'll be happy to see that there's
still quite a bit of climbing, and no boring sections.

For the first sixty kilometres there'll be no convenience stores (and
no sit-down lunch); so carry pocketfuls of bananas, pemmican, soyjoys,
etc (but no pot belge).

Make sure your brakes are in good nick. Rim brakes and carbon fibre
rims aren't a wise combination. Bring a spare inner tube. Descents
could be a bit chilly.

Bail-out points (for an easy return to Musashi Itsukaichi station) at
35 km and 53 km.

Your leader (very likely from behind, because grandpa speed): Peter
Evans peter.evans.somewhere@PROTECTED

Monday Kasai Rinkai Adventure.

A 45-km romp out to that most excellent seaside park near Disneyland. We call this a beginners’ plus as it’s a bit longer than a beginners’ ride, and can be pretty fast, especially on the back stretch. Start at the Grand Hyatt at 11:00. Back by 3:00. Leader: me.

Ciao for now,
