Felice anno nuovo, ciclisti!

Saturday I’ll do the regular keep-fit beginners’ jaunt out to Odaiba. Too many bonenkai to ride on Sunday, but on Wednesday, Brian will once again launch into our traditional New Year’s Day Yamanote Line Loop ride.

Saturday Beginners’ Odaiba.

Start at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills at 11:00 a.m. for an easy, 30-km lope out to the beach. Back by around 2:00. Leader: me.

For the Yamanote ride, I’ll let Brian fill you in:

New Year’s Day Yamanote Adventure

Each January 1st it is our tradition to ride around the Yamanote loop, stopping twice for grub and beer. As usual, the plans is for Brian to lead the ride and Mike to dash around taking photographs. Here’s a route map, although there will be some minor tweaks due to construction work.

Meet: Wednesday 1st Jan (of course), 9:15 at Ebisu Station; the koban by the bottom of the ATRE escalator. [here]

* Stop peeling those mikan.
* Recover from the night before.
* Only 365 more days for riding in 2020.
* Start the New Year off right with a ride around the Yamanote!
* Ride through some parts of town we usually don't visit.

Ready to leave at 9:30 promptly (to be sure of timely arrival at our lunch place)

Lunch in Nippori, with  beer. Less than 2000 yen.

Second beer stop at Beer Station Ebisu, in Ebisu Garden Place - assuming it’s open, as it wasn’t last time.

We aim to be back at Ebisu by 16:00.

Bring: Warm clothes, water bottle, helmet, pump, spare tube, and your bike. If you think you might want to quit early, bring your bike bag. Although less than 50 km, it is still an intermediate level ride. Forecast looks good; sunny with a high around 9ºC.
