THEY’RE
HEEERE!
The blossoms, of course. And while Saturday is looking dampish and windy, some forecasters are saying Sunday’s temps may hit 23 degrees, with little wind. Thanks to COVID and the friggin Olympics, our favorite spot for calm contemplation of the fleeting beauty of life has been closed for a few years. But now it seems it’s open again. This will be a modified Tama loop, gliding through a selection of lovely cherry spots before reaching the bay, with the Oi Futo Central Park standing in for Jonan Jima.
Masks up, please for meet-up spots and stores, otherwise optional while riding.
Bring:
1) an eco-bag for stuff we’re going to buy at a nearby convenience store
2) something to sit on, as it will rain the previous night. And a coat, since it won’t be all that sunny.
3) food, either your specialty to share, or some snacks from the store.
4) Proof of vaccination
Sunday Cherry Blossom Extravaganza
50km, easy but fast. Start at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills at 11:00 a.m. Alternate rendezvous points: KFC in Ebisu @ 11:30, Intersection of Kan-Nana and Komazawa-Dori @ 11:45, Komazawa Park @ noon, bridge at Futako-Tamagawa (Kanagawa side) @ 12:20, Gas Bashi @ 12:45 or 1:00. Please contact me if one of these meeting spots applies to you. 090-5813-6721.
When we get near Jonan, we will instead go north along the freeway toward a convenience store across from that big baseball stadium with the lights (ETA 1:30), stock up on comestibles, and then head toward the north end of the park where the cherry trees form a gorgeous white tunne (we’ve biked through there a few times in recent weeks). Needless to day, we will tarry quite a bit longer than our usual break. If you want to go home early, it’s pretty straight forward getting back to central Tokyo.
Non-biking friends and relatives can get there on the Monorail, getting off at Oikeibajo-mae station.
The amusement never ends
