WE’D
BE
FOOLS
…not to get out there and do some pedaling this lovely weekend. The highs will be 14 Saturday and 20 Sunday (!). So we have three rides to various nearby destinations. Saturday Paul will do his popular ride to the Takahata Fudo temple, and Todd is off to the hills again with a more ambitious hill-climb. Me, I’ll do an Odaiba Plus jaunt on Sunday.
Masks up, please, for meet-up spots, stores, etc. Otherwise optional while riding. Vaccinated riders only. And don’t forget your reusable eco-bag for convenience store purchases.
Saturday - Early Takahata Fudo
Paul:
We'll be going to go up the Tama river to Takahata Fudo (in Hino City) where you can buy a new "Kotsu Anzen Omamori" to keep safe for another year.

We will meet at 10.00 a.m. (sharp) at the West entrance to Komazawa Park. From there we go to Futakobashi and up the Tama river (far side up to Koremasabashi and then on the Tokyo side for a while before crossing back over. We'll have a brief wander round the temple area and make any desired souvenir purchases before leaving.
From there we'll head up the Kawasaki Kaido and cross back over to the Tokyo side (near Tachikawa) and back down the river with a brief pause for a combini lunch near Zanborigawa.
Total distance probably 65 kms which makes this an INTERMEDIATE ride on distance although the pace will beginner level.
I would guess we’d get back to Komazawa Park before 4 p.m.
Please bring spare tubes and a pump, etc. Masks for combini, eco bags, helmets as usual. Lights recommended as it still gets a bit gloomy later in the afternoon.

Sunday - Tsukuba Adventure
Todd:
Come for a ride in Ibaraki Prefecture! Highlights include Mt Tsukuba and an old train line which has been converted into a bike path.Meet at the koban next to the A2 Exit of Tsukuba Station at 9am (https://goo.gl/maps/Ez9ztK5sVWWi3pLS6)We will ride out to Mt Tsukuba, climb up to the cable car station where we can be rewarded with ice cream, before descending down to the 'fruit line' and heading towards Tsuchiura, where we can get some food.Should be around 90km with 1200m elevation gain - so, similar to the Greenline/Takao rides from last yearAccess:The Tsukuba express runs from Akihabara to Tsukuba, and only takes 45 minutes - I will probably take the 8:00am train: https://goo.gl/maps/i9UNoJ8EJVaaA2Si6For any questions please message toddperry171@PROTECTED
Sunday Odaiba Plus
Our usual easy jaunt out to the beach in the bay, but with 15km tacked on to the front end, making the total about 45km. Note: High winds are forecast, so don’t put away the extra layers just yet. I may alter the course if the winds are too strong.
Start at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills at 11:00 a.m. Back by about 3:00. Coffee
