WEEKEND

…with partly cloudy skies, and most importantly little wind! So perhaps winter is on the way out. Saturday I’ll do an Odaiba Plus ride, and Peter has a hill climb planned. Sunday, in order to skirt the Tokyo Marathon, a Tama River loop.

Masks up, please, for meet-up spots, stores, restaurants, etc. Otherwise optional while riding. Vaccinated riders only. And don’t forget tp bring along a reusable eco-bag for any convenience store  purchases.

Note: Now negotiating for a floating festival this summer. Not inked in yet, but save the evening of June 3rd on your calendars.

Saturday Odaiba Plus

Our usual jaunt out to the magical island in the bay, but with 15km tacked on the front end to make the total about 45km. Start at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills at 11:00 a.m., back by 3:00. Coffee

Saturday: Get high in Tokyo

Over to Peter:

Set off from the Family Mart ( https://goo.gl/maps/biG8KywMm9F2NUwp8 )
1.5 km west of Musashi-Itsukaichi station at 09:00 and head west for
Hinohara and the top of Kazahari pass (1146m, and thus close to a
kilometre above where we started).

We'll go up by the steepest of the three routes. It's scenic (
https://funq.jp/bicycle-club/article/560079/ ). Then a long descent to
the western end of lake Okutama, a sit-down lunch, and eastwards to
Okutama via "Mukashi-michi". This has some gravel, but it's not too
rough, and you can bypass the gravel section if you prefer.

Finish at your choice among Okutama station, Ōme station, Haijima
station, or wherever you like along Tamagawa.

Avoid particularly delicate tyres. Make sure that your brakes are in
good condition. Bring lights for the numerous tunnels, windbreaker,
spare inner tube, cash for lunch, and water.
