WINTER

…is apparently over. This weekend we have a pair of 20+ days coming up. Allergy sufferers beware, though, as the pollen levels are forecast to be severe. Take whatever allergy medicine you use before the ride, and maybe a mask will help.

Saturday we’ll do our usual easy jaunt out to Odaiba, and Sunday I thought I’d try something different: a slightly abridged Arakawa River run.

Masks up, please (for just a while longer), for meet-up spots, stores, etc. Otherwise optional while riding. Vaccinated riders only.

Saturday Odaiba Beginners

Start at the Grand Hyatt in roppongi Hills at 11:00 for an easy 30-km lope out to the beach by the bay for a brew or two. Back by about 2:00

Sunday Arakawa Loop

Start at the Hyatt at 11:00; back by maybe 3:30. Intermediate level. No hills.

I haven’t done this ride in ages (though others have). To keep it within my still-recovering abilities, I’ll lop off a few extensions. Not sure the distance, but estimated at about 60km. Set off to the north, skirt the Imperial Palace, cut through Ueno Park and the back streets of Yanaka to the river, downstream to Kasai Rinkai seaside park for our break, then back fairly directly to the start point. Coffee
