BETWEEN THE RAINDROPS

Sasurday I will very likely offer an Odaiba Plus ride, but starting an hour later than usual. Sunday James will do a Tama River Loop, and Peter will engage in a little (slowish) hill-climbing.

Tokyo Bay Cruise V

The boat is about full, but there’s always room for a few more. Details attached. This will be the best party you will have gone to in three years. Okay the ONLY party in three years. Don’t miss the boat!

Masks recommended for meet-up points, stores, etc, but no longer required. Vaccinated riders only.

Saturday Odaiba Plus (noon start).

Our usual jaunt out to the beach in the bay, but with about 20km tacked on to the front end to make the total about 50km. Start at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills at —>>> NOON <<<—— to make sure the forecast “AM rain” is done. If the forecast changes for the worse, look for a cancellation message in the morning. Back by about 3:30 at the latest.

Sunday Tama Loop

Intermediate-level. 55km, easy but fast. Start at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills at 11:00 a.m. Alternate rendezvous points: KFC in Ebisu @ 11:30, Intersection of Kan-Nana and Komazawa-Dori @ 11:45, Komazawa Park @ noon, bridge at Futako-Tamagawa (Kanagawa side) @ 12:20, Gas Bashi @ 12:45 or 1:00. Medium break at Jonan Jima seaside park (across from Haneda) at 1:30 or 2:00. Convenience store lunch. Please contact me if one of these meeting spots applies to you. James: 090-2874-4848. High possibility of an after-ride Pub event.

Sunday - Escape the concrete jungle

https://ridewithgps.com/routes/42942086

Set off from the Family Mart ( https://goo.gl/maps/biG8KywMm9F2NUwp8 ) 1.5 km west of Musashi-Itsukaichi station at 08:45 and head west for Hinohara and the top of Kazahari pass (1146m, and thus close to a kilometre above where we started).

We'll go up by the most popular of the three routes. It's not particularly steep and it's moderately scenic. It's then a long descent to the western end of lake Okutama, a sit-down lunch, along the lake, and eastwards to Okutama via "Mukashi-michi". This has some gravel, but it's not too rough; and you can bypass the gravel section if you prefer. And it's scenic too!

Finish at your choice among Okutama station, Ōme station, Haijima station, or wherever you like along Tamagawa.

Avoid particularly delicate tyres. Make sure that your brakes are in good condition. Bring lights for the numerous tunnels, windbreaker, sunblock, spare inner tube, cash for lunch (and more cash, plus a spare pocket, if you'd like to buy some wasabi-zuke), and water.
