I’VE ORDERED

...better weather for tomorrow evening, so the cruise is a definite go. More below.
The rain will stop in the early afternoon, but that’s too late for a ride. Sunday I have a guest we’ll take out to Odaiba, but he’ll be riding my lead-sled city bike, so just our usual Odaiba run.

Masks optional, vaccinated riders only, and always carry a reusable eco-bag for any purchases.

Sunday Odaiba

Start at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills for an easy, 30-km lope out to the magical island in the bay for a brew or two. Back by around 2:00 Coffee

Tokyo Bay Cruise

First, a huge thanks to Akira for helping with the negotiations with the boat rental company. Not possible without him.

If you’re among the lucky people who have reserved a spot for this wondrous event, below is a list I already sent out to the non-HalfFasters.

Saturday Sailors!

The Fifth Half-Fast Tokyo Bay Cruise is fast approaching. The various weather services have been screwing with my head this past week, changing the forecast hourly, but the latest is for the rain to stop at about 2:00 p.m.
A few notes:

Make sure you know where the start point is. If you get lost, enter “Asashio Canal Pier” in your smartphone’s map app, or call me at 090-5813-6721. Try to be there by 6:00.

It’s a potluck, but you don’t have to feed 70 people. Just a small dish to share.  A curry, some sushi. But more than a bag of chips. There’ll be tons of food.

ICE. They’ve modified the bar sink on the boat from one big tub we could fill with ice to a pair of useless small sinks. So if you’re bringing beer or white wine, consider also bringing a small cooler. Ice (and beer and wine) can be purchased at a convenience store halfway between Kachikdoki Oedo subway station and the pier.

Hint: Red wine can (and will) slosh around a lot on a rocking boat. One effective way to minimize wine stains on your (and your neighbors’) clothing is to bring  your red wine in half-bottle screw-tops, and just drink out of that. Clever, no?

I’m bringing 100 plates, plastic glasses, ohashi, forks and napkins. Please supply any other utensils your dish may require.

If you are bringing a child 11 and under, notify the guy counting noses at the gangplank of this when you board.

Crew strength currently stands at about 70 people, but we can always squeeze in a few more. Let me know soonest.

Here’s the bit from the invite:

WHERE AND WHEN

June 3rd, 6:00p.m. at Asashio Canal Pier,

just across Harumi-dori from Triton Square.

Directions: Come up exit A3b at Kachidoki Station (E17) on the Oedo Line and make an immediate U-turn. That big street just ahead is Harumi-Dori. Go right (the opposite direction of Kachidoki Bridge) and walk about 5 minutes to a smaller bridge. The pier is visible on the right from the bridge.

(Enter “Asashio Canal Pier” on your iPhone map.)

We’ll be back by 10:00.
