I’m back...

,,,and ready to roll. Huge thanks to Paul and James for organizing the rides in my absence through the long, hot summer. Paul, if you didn’t know, underwent a major medical operation earlier this month and is off the bike for a while. We’re all hoping to see him back in the saddle, but this will probably not be until January.

Sunday is looking like all-day rain, but Saturday's going to be fine at 24 degrees and sunny. James will do a Tama River loop starting at 11:00. I have to work, but will do a NIGHT RIDE out to Odaiba starting at 5:00. All mask restrictions have been dropped.

Important: Please note the phone numbers of the ride leaders and call (don’t text) if you need to contact them. Texts are generally ignored while riding.

Saturday Tama River Loop

Intermediate-level. 55km, easy but fast. Start at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills at 11:00 a.m. Alternate rendezvous points: KFC in Ebisu @ 11:30, Intersection of Kan-Nana and Komazawa-Dori @ 11:45, Komazawa Park @ noon, bridge at Futako-Tamagawa (Kanagawa side) @ 12:20, Gas Bashi @ 12:45 or 1:00. Medium break at Jonan Jima seaside park (across from Haneda) at 1:30 or 2:00. Convenience store lunch. Please CALL James 30min before the ride starts if one of these meeting spots applies to you. 090-2874-4848. Back by 3:30 at the latest.

Saturday Odaiba Night Ride

We usually do night rides in the summer when it’s too hot to be pedaling around during the day. But I’ve been away for four months (cycling in other hot places) and want to get one in before it gets too cold. And it’s my only chance to ride with you guys this weekend. If you’ve never done a night ride, you have a treat in store. The SuperCity is entirely different when it’s all lit up. Check/recharge your bike lamps and ride carefully. And bring a jacket or extra layer.  * We’ll attempt to wave to Paul in his hospital window as we pass by. Temps will be 21 at the start, 19 by the end.

Start at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills at 5:00 p.m. Distance 30km, beginners’ pace. Beer at the beach. Back by around 8:00. Leader: me.

The amusement never ends
