COOL
BUT
SUNNY

…is the forecast this weekend, and we have three rides to get you outdoors and excercising. Temps are 12 on Saturday and 14 on Sunday. Dress appropriately.

So for a variety of reasons, I’ll limit myself to two 30-km jaunts, while Brian will offer on Sunday his famed, 80-km Headwaters of the Tsurumi ride.

Please bring along an eco-bag for any convenience store lunches, as Half-Fast frowns seriously on single-use plastic bags.

Saturday Jonan Jima Jaunt

Start at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills at 11:00 a.m. for a quick, 30-km ride out to a little beach park across from Haneda Airport. Convenience store lunch. Back by around 2:00

Sunday Odaiba Visit

Start at the Hyatt at 11:00 for another short ride out to the beach by the bay for a brew or two. 30km, back by 2:00 or so.

Sunday Headwaters of the Tsurumi

(AKA 80 for 80)
Leader: Brian (090-9951-3393)
briankimiko at jcom.zaq.ne.jp
Start 9:00 at the Giant Shop under the bridge at Futago
(Other meeting places up river on the Tama are possible.  Please contact me if you are interested.)
Distance about 80 km mostly flat with one short climb

I hope the rivers and the park with the Tank Road will have beautiful fall leaves for us to enjoy

Ride up the Tamagawa to Seiseki Sakiuragaoka, pick up the Okurigawa and follow it up to Minami Osawa where we will but some bento stuff to enjoy under the leaves in the park on the Tank Road and a view of lovely Machida.  (It’s a couple of kilometers from the store to the lunch spot so something to carry your lunch in is a good idea)
After lunch we drop into the Tsurumi drainage, visit the spring that is the official source of the Tsurumi and then follow the river for some 30 km downstream, past the stadium complex in Yokohama and on to about 8 km upstream from he mouth.  We leave the river and cut across residential Kawasaki to the Tama.  The ride usually breaks up here, some heading up stream to the starting point and home, others via the Tama Loop route back toward Jonanjima and Roppongi.

We should all be close to home by mid afternoon.

Bring water, helmet, emergency roadside repair kit and suitable warm clothing.  It’ll be sunny and a bit above 10 with moderate wind.

Update from Paul

Those of you concerned about our friend Paul and his recovery from a cancer operation, he’s sent you a progress report:

Hi,

I started the radiation and chemo therapy on 11/21 (Tuesday) with radiation in the morning and chemo in the
afternoon. For Wednesday and Friday it was radiation only.

The administration of the treatment was fine but after chemo I started getting some side effects - nausea, vomiting and constipation. I am over the nausea and vomiting for now (I have chemo again tomorrow) but the constipation is persistent and unpleasant.

Hoping the second week goes better but I am staying positive. I haven't ventured out on my bike yet as I still have limited mobility in my neck which means I don't have full vision. But the lymphodema is reducing and I am hopingto at least be able to make small trips round the neighbourhood soon.

Rgds,
Paul
