HALF-FASTERS ALL

I’m off for a few months of creative wandering around the Southwest US in my supercamper.

In my absence James Wee will be coordinating the weekly rides. Mike will continue to be in charge of membership and all things Internet.

James, workload permitting, will usually offer a ride each week. But what I need now is for members to step up and volunteer to share their favorite rides or one of our proven  standards. In consideration of our riding philosophy (not too fast, not too slow), we are proudly mediocre in our goals, stressing exercise and friendships over manic, all-day hill-climbs. That said, if you want to invite our membership (there’s over 450 or us) on what we call “ludicrous level” rides, please do. This is everyone’s club. But remember that we lean toward the less challenging, more widely accessible end of the biker scale. I’d especially like to see our regular rides out to the beach in Odaiba continued. Multiple rides on any given day with different routes and degrees of difficulty are certainly okay. Note: a 15-minute grace period from the announced start time is fairly ingrained, so please observe this to insure no one is left behind. Also a good time to meet and greet your fellow riders.

To offer a ride, just email James with the meeting time and place, route, distance, degree of difficulty, end time and, most importantly, beer stops. Don’t forget your contact info. Please send all this to James by Thursday night for inclusion in the regular Friday bulletin. If two rides are similar, James will choose one. James’s email: sw08023@PROTECTED

Remember: The leader is the leader. If you are not happy with the route and want to suggest changes, don’t pester the leader. It’s not a democracy. Instead offer to lead your own ride in the future.

We say we have no rules, but that’t not really accurate. We have a few.

1. Wear a helmet
2. Leave the earbuds at home.
3. Bring an eco-bag for your convenience store lunches. We frown on single-use plastic bags.
3. Don’t make the mistake of thinking of Half-Fast as a rolling singles bar. Consequences.

Have a great time cycling this fall. See you in January. And as Mike is fond of saying, keep the rubber side down.
