A beautiful weekend

...coming up, with sun and temps of  around 20 degrees. Three rides planned. On Saturday I’ll do the usual beginners’  run out to Odaiba, and Jack will attempt something considerably more ambitious out Chichibu way, likely involving some autumn foliage. Then on Sunday it’s an intermediate ride out to Kasai Rinkai and Wakasu parks. Don’t forget your sunscreen.

Masks up, please.

Saturday Chichibu Selections

Chichibu Loop + Return trip to Tokyo

This is an advanced ride to go touring the koyo (autumn leaves) out in Chichibu and maybe gawk at the Nichitsu ghost town.  The Chichibu Loop itself is 87km, with about 40km of climbing at 3% to 5%.  At the end of loop, one can return via train or cycle back all the way into Tokyo, an additional  84 to 100km.  A good chance to get a double metric century.

The ride is WATT (wait at top / turns) and at tourist speed (overall average of 18kph, cruising at ~22kph). However because of the long climbs, it is an advanced ride.

There are very few convenience stores.  Vending machines about 15km apart.

The weather will be cool and the long descent will be chilly.  Pack a windbreaker.

Saturday Odaiba Beginners’

Start at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills at 11:00 a.m. for an easy, 30-ride out to the beach by the bay for a brew or two. Back by about 2:30. Leader: me.

Sunday Kasai Adventure

An approximately 50-km lope out to Kasai Rinkai Seaside Park for a kiosk/convieni lunch, returning via Wakasu Park and the Dinosaur Bridge. Start at the Hyatt at 11:00, back by about 3:30. Leader: me.

The amusement never ends
