Fall bikers,
There may be some slight “PM showers” on Sunday (19 degrees), but Saturday (20 degrees) will be brilliant, with little wind either day.
So I’m going to switch the usual order and offer a 55-km Tama Loop Saturday and a 30-km Odaiba jaunt on Sunday.
Also on Saturday, Dr Josh is planning a more advanced Halloween ghost town ride that looks pretty intriguing out Chichibu way.
Masks now required only at meet-up points and for going into convenience stores, etc., but optional while riding. Don’t forget your eco bag.
Saturday Tama Loop
Intermediate-level. 55km, easy but fast. Start at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills at 11:00 a.m. Alternate rendezvous points: KFC in Ebisu @ 11:30, Intersection of Kan-Nana and Komazawa-Dori @ 11:45, Komazawa Park @ noon, bridge at Futako-Tamagawa (Kanagawa side) @ 12:20, Gas Bashi @ 12:45 or 1:00. Long break at Jonan Jima seaside park (across from Haneda) at 1:30 or 2:00. Convenience store lunch. Please contact me if one of these meeting spots applies to you. 090-5813-6721. Back by 3:00 or 3:30.
Sunday Odaiba Beginners'
Start at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills at 11:00 a.m. for a quick and probably cloudy 30-km lope out to the magical island in the bay for a brew or two. Back by 2:30 at the latest.
Halloween Chichibu Ghost Town Ride Saturday 10/30/21
Overview: Halloween, cooler temps and fall colors make it a perfect time to head to the mountains of Chichibu for an autumn adventure ride! The route will take us through ghost towns, spooky tunnels, spectacular foliage and up and over a high pass leading to a dilapidated rindo descent with broad vistas and spoke rattling tarmac. Costumes optional! MAP: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/37874728Details: We'll meet between 8:30—8:50 am (leaving at 9:05 am) at the 7-11 next to Seibu-Chichibu station: https://goo.gl/maps/pTpq4mBk8Q6cBsXY7We’ll stock up at the 7-11 in Chichibu and have a picnic lunch on the mountain. Return time is hard to predict, but likely ~4 pm.There will be quite a bit of climbing (~1,800 m, RWGPS map is not accurate) and a technical descent on the rindo portion, so this ride is for intermediate-advanced cyclists with experience in the mountains. However, pace will be Half Fast and we’ll wait at the ghost Town and peak. Make sure your brakes are in good working order and that you've got a spare tube (or 2). The first part of the descent is on very rough roads and punctures are likely.Masks: Mask required for meet up spot and convenience store visits (not required en route).Getting to Seibu-Chichibu station: Possibly the best and definitely the most comfortable (though not the only) option is the Seibu Ikebukuro line ‘Laview’ train (https://www.seiburailway.jp/railways/tourist/english/limited_express) leaving from Ikebukuro station. There is a train (“Chichibu 5 Toll Limited Express Seibu Chichibu”) leaving at 7:30 am from platform 8 at Ikebukuro station, arriving at Seibu Chichibu station at 8:50 am. Best to get there early as you'll need to buy reserve seats and find a spot for your bike on the train (typically behind the rear seats, vertically aligned works best)https://goo.gl/maps/1R4aPsApWKJ89NVq8Contact: email: johaono@PROTECTED
