Three for Saturday

Subject: Three for Saturday
Date: November 11th 2022
SUNDAY

...may see some rain, now posted as “PM Showers,” so nothing for that day. If the morning is nice, though, by all means get out there and do some pedaling.

But on SATURDAY we have three rides on offer. First, Peter will do a “Get High in Tokyo” ride and, as the name implies, involves a bit of climbing. Then James will launch a Tama River loop later in the morning, at 11, and I will do a late-start out-and-back to Odaiba, possibly not stopping at all but ending up at Hobgoblin hopefully in sync with James’s  ride.

As always, mask up for meeting spots and stores, etc. Optional while riding. And bring an eco bag for any store purchases. We seriously frown on single-use plastic bags.

Saturday: Get high in Tokyo

Set off from the 7-11 ( https://goo.gl/maps/2ibws8MPc4AoCsYp7 ) across
the road from Musashi-Itsukaichi station at 08:30 and head west for
Hinohara and the top of Kazahari pass (1146m, and thus close to a
kilometre above where we started).

We'll go up by the steepest of the three routes. It's the hardest, but
during weekends it's the only one not infested with overpowered
motorbikes, and it's scenic (
https://funq.jp/bicycle-club/article/560079/ ). Then a long descent to
the western end of lake Okutama, a sit-down lunch, and eastwards to
Okutama via "Mukashi-michi". This has some gravel, but it's not too
rough, and you can avoid it if you like.

Finish at your choice among Okutama station, Ōme station, or wherever
you like along Tamagawa.

Avoid particularly delicate tyres. Make sure that your brakes are in
good condition. (I don't recommend the combination of rim brakes and
carbon rims.) Bring lights for the numerous tunnels, windbreaker,
spare inner tube, cash for lunch, and water and some food.

"Leader" (scare quotes because old and slow): Peter,

Saturday Tama River Loop

Intermediate-level. 55km, easy but fast. Start at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills at 11:00 a.m. Alternate rendezvous points: KFC in Ebisu @ 11:30, Intersection of Kan-Nana and Komazawa-Dori @ 11:45, Komazawa Park @ noon, bridge at Futako-Tamagawa (Kanagawa side) @ 12:20, Gas Bashi @ 12:45 or 1:00. Medium break at Jonan Jima seaside park (across from Haneda) at 1:30 or 2:00. Convenience store lunch. Please contact me if one of these meeting spots applies to you. Leader: James 090-2874-4848. High possibility of an after ride Pub event at around 3 to 3.30

Saturday Late-Start Odaiba Out-And-Back

Start at the Grand Hyatt at >>> 1:00 p.m. <<<< (personal scheduling reasons) for a fast ride out to the beach by the bay. Depending on James’s Tama progress, we may just bypass the beach and head directly back to the pub in Roppongi. 30 km. Easy. Back by about 3:00.

That’s all, folks!
