THE FIRST

This weekend we’ll bid  arrivederci to 2022 and buongiorno to 2023. Saturday our usual jaunt to Odaiba, and Sunday Brian’s traditional Yamanote Loop New Year’s Day ride.

Masks up, please, for meetup spots, stores and restaurants. Otherwise optional while riding. Bring a reusable eco-bag to help cut down on the number of single-use plastic bags that make it to the ocean. Vaccinated riders only.

Saturday Odaiba Romp

Meet at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills at 11:00 a.m. for an easy 30-km ride out to the magical beach in the bay for a brew or two, Back by 2:00. Coffee

New Year’s Day Yamanote Loop

Over to Brian:

If you were asking, the answer is yes, stop peeling those mikan and break out your cold weather gear.  How many days did you ride last year?  Not enough?  There are only 365 days to ride this year so let’s not waste this one.

We’ll start at Shinagawa again this year and ride clockwise around the Yamanote with a stop for lunch in Nippori and beer at Shinagawa at the end.  Along the way we’ll visit some of neighborhoods we know so well but there are also a few spots we seem to visit only once a year.

Start at Shinagawa, Koonan (East Exit) side in the plaza by the koban and the flag pole
Time:  Meet at 7:30 and roll out about 7:45
Distance: About 45 - 50 km
Lunch and beer will probably set you back a little more than 3000 yen.
Weather:  Sunny but cold; low at 0700 of about 5 and a high at 1400 of about 12.  The wind is expected to be fairly light from the NW going around to E in the afternoon. Dress warmly!
