BEAT THE HEAT
with

HALF-FAST

The forecast for this weekend is very very hot. Exercising in this kind of heat is unwise and can even be fatal. But this doesn’t mean we don’t need exercise, so we will offer three rides during the less-sizzling hours. Like early in the morning and after sundown.

While one of the three weather sites I monitor predicts a chance of scattered thundershowers for Saturday afternoon, I’m going to pencil in a night ride to Jonan Jima in the evening. This will start at 7:00 p.m. and may be canceled if the thunderheads loom.

Then James will do a really, really early jaunt to the same island on Sunday morning, and I’ll lead another night ride to Odaiba on Sunday evening.  This time you can save on the sunscreen.

If you’ve never done a night ride in Tokyo, it is an astoundingly different and memorable experience.

Depending on appetites and circumstances, we may go pizza-hunting afterwards.

Saturday Jonan Jima at Night

Start at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills at 7:00 p.m. (when the threat of rain is supposed to ease) for a 30-km experience to the little beach park across from Haneda.  Back by around 9:00. Watch for a cancellation notice if the forecast changes. Bring rain gear just in case.

Sunday EARLY Jonan Jima

Start: Grand Hyatt Roppongi at an early 7.00 a.m. sharp

Pace: Easy, beginners

Distance: 30km. We’ll take a leisurely standard Half-Fast route down to Jonan Jima and back.

Return to Grand Hyatt by 9.30AM.  Eco bags, helmets as usual.

Leader: James. Mobile: 090-2874-4848, email: sw08023jp - atmark - yahoo.co.jp

Sunday Odaiba Night Ride

Start at the Hyatt at 6:00 p.m. for a wondrous 30-km ride out to the extra-magical-by-night island in the bay for a brew or two at a little beach bar. Back by around 9:00.

Stay hydrated,
