Rides, 27, 28

July 26th 2024 MST

*WELL**HELL*The forecast for this weekend is almost identical to last week, and those “occasional thundershowers” are notoriously hard to predict. (BTW, me and one other guy went out to Odaiba last Saturday and got misted on at a few points but never a downpour. And we were treated to a terrific lightning show all around us.)As biking in 35 degree heat in the sun can be lethal, not to mention not much fun, we’ll again offer two rides in the cooler parts of the day. James will do one of his very very early rides to ...Continue Reading

Fireworks

July 23rd 2024 MST

💥✨🌟Just wondering if any members have a working knowledge of the Asakusa district. The nation’s biggest fireworks display will happen there this Saturday, and if the forecast PM thunderstorms don’t happen,. I was thinking about riding out to that area. But I know little about it, and there will be, oh, two million other people there. It’s Tokyo. So the best way to get there would be by bike, preferably up the east bank of the Sumida. We don’t have to be extremely close, say around the Ryogoku sumo stadium area. Any ...Continue Reading

Night Rides

July 19th 2024 MST

*ODAIBA*ON!*The threat of thunderstorms tonight has apparently dissipated, so the night ride to Odaiba is a GO. (But bring rain gear, thunderstorms being what they are.)Start at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills at 6:00 p.m., when it will be a frigid 32 degrees. We’ll ride out to the beach bar in the bay. It’s possible to extend this 30-km jaunt a little if everyone feels up to it. If you’ve never done a night ride in Tokyo, you have a treat in store. Back by around 8:30, or a little later if extended. To ...Continue Reading

3 night rides 3

July 18th 2024 MST

I’LL MAKE IT SIMPLE*Three night rides in three days. I’ll go out all three nights this weekend because I need the exercise and it’s way too hot to ride in the daytime. Starting tonight. Join me if you wish. (Saturday forecast for thundershowers in the afternoon. Keep an eye on the weather and make your own decision.)Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Start at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills at 6:00 p.m. *sharp*. We’ll decide where to go at the start point, but no more than 30km. We rarely ask you to RSVP for ...Continue Reading

Ride reschedule

July 13th 2024 MST

WELL, I TRIED*It turns out last night's forecast was a tad optimistic.*BUT NOT GIVING UP*Tomorrow’s a holiday, so I’m going to do a 30-km night ride to Odaiba starting at 6:00 p.m. from the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills. Call me at 090-5813-6721 or reply to this message if you want to join. Sorry for the frequent messages.IP -- Thank you for being on our list. You can Unsubscribe at any time. ...Continue Reading

Sunday Odaiba

July 13th 2024 MST

Sorry for the**LATE NOTICE*…But the forecast for Sunday is rapidly improving, and it may be dry enough to get in a ride. During the Rainy Season, we take what we can get. If it turns out I’m dreaming and typing in my sleep, look for a cancellation notice in the morning. So let’s meet at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills at 11:00 a.m. and head out to the beach at Odaiba (30km) or, if circumstances permit and the riders are willing, an extended version (about 45km). Beach bar lunch. Back by 2:00 or 3:00.All for ...Continue Reading

Rides, 13,, 14, 15 --NOT!

July 11th 2024 MST

THE GOOD*NEWS IS*…that the Rainy Season will temporarily let up on Saturday. But the bad news is that I have to work that day, and other ride leaders are down with covid or colds. By all means you should still go out and get some exercise. Sunday still up in the air, weather-wise, but probably too wet to ride. Look for a note Saturday afternoon or evening for a Sunday jaunt if the outlook improves. Ditto holiday Monday.Next weekend forecast to be dryer, but with temps back up in the 34 range, so possibly ...Continue Reading

Night Rides!

July 5th 2024 MST

BEAT THE HEAT**with***HALF-FAST*The forecast for this weekend is very very hot. Exercising in this kind of heat is unwise and can even be fatal. But this doesn’t mean we don’t need exercise, so we will offer three rides during the less-sizzling hours. Like early in the morning and after sundown. While one of the three weather sites I monitor predicts a chance of scattered thundershowers for Saturday afternoon, I’m going to pencil in a night ride to Jonan Jima in the evening. This will start at 7:00 p.m. and may be ...Continue Reading

Rides, 29, 30

June 27th 2024 MST

SUMMER *…seems to be holding off for a bit longer, with temps this weekend at 28 or 29. Lots of humidity, though, so be sure to keep hydrated, and don’t forget the sunscreen. NOTE: When the temps top 32 or so, we shift to night rides, starting at 6:00 p.m. And ride leaders should remember that we won’t publicize daytime hill-climbs and such in the very hot weather. So this week a Saturday run to Odaiba and a Sunday Tama River loop. Also Peter has planned one of his scenic hill-climbs for Saturday. *S ...Continue Reading

Wednesday Ride

June 24th 2024 MST

*For those not bound *by such pesky things as jobs, a midweek ride tomorrow.Start at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills at 11:00 SHARP. No grace period. 30-km to Odaiba and back no later than 2:00.Still evaluating the weather for this weekend, but most likely an Odaiba run on Saturday and a 55-k Tama River loop on Sunday, But wait for Friday’s announcement on that. CheersIl Padrone, 090-5813-6721 -- Thank you for being on our list.
