*TYPHOONS*…are a bitch to foresee. The weather forecasters predict rain throughout the weekend because, well, what would you do in their position? But I’m seeing some wiggle room between the raindrops, so to speak, and as of this writing it looks as though Saturday and Sunday evenings may be dry-ish.So I’m /tentatively/ planning night rides to Jonan (Saturday) and Odaiba (Sunday) for some desperately needed exercise. And beer. And pizza. The forecasts change by the hour. If it looks like either of these are possible, ...Continue Reading

INCONVENIENT**RIDES*Due to a combination of work. weather and social complications, we won’t be offering the usual rides at the usual times this weekend. But we still need exercise (and beer), so I’ll head out to Odaiba TONIGHT, and James will again offer one of his very early, beer-optional rides on Saturday morning. Best we can do.Carpe diem, as next weekend’s weather forecast remains iffy. Friday Night Ride to Odaiba*For those with more flexible work schedules. Meet at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi ...Continue Reading

EVEN*HOTTER*…is the forecast for this weekend, and, as usual, some wet spots that are hard to predict. So we will stick to our early-morning and evening rides for now. I’ll do a beginners’ ride to Odaiba on Saturday night, and another to Jonan on Sunday night. Please make sure your bike lamps are charged up and in working order. Meanwhile, James will do a pair of very early jaunts to Jonan on Sunday and Monday mornings. Weather permitting. *Saturday night ride to Odaiba*Start at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills at ...Continue Reading

*WELL**HELL*The forecast for this weekend is almost identical to last week, and those “occasional thundershowers” are notoriously hard to predict. (BTW, me and one other guy went out to Odaiba last Saturday and got misted on at a few points but never a downpour. And we were treated to a terrific lightning show all around us.)As biking in 35 degree heat in the sun can be lethal, not to mention not much fun, we’ll again offer two rides in the cooler parts of the day. James will do one of his very very early rides to ...Continue Reading

💥✨🌟Just wondering if any members have a working knowledge of the Asakusa district. The nation’s biggest fireworks display will happen there this Saturday, and if the forecast PM thunderstorms don’t happen,. I was thinking about riding out to that area. But I know little about it, and there will be, oh, two million other people there. It’s Tokyo. So the best way to get there would be by bike, preferably up the east bank of the Sumida. We don’t have to be extremely close, say around the Ryogoku sumo stadium area. Any ...Continue Reading

*ODAIBA*ON!*The threat of thunderstorms tonight has apparently dissipated, so the night ride to Odaiba is a GO. (But bring rain gear, thunderstorms being what they are.)Start at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills at 6:00 p.m., when it will be a frigid 32 degrees. We’ll ride out to the beach bar in the bay. It’s possible to extend this 30-km jaunt a little if everyone feels up to it. If you’ve never done a night ride in Tokyo, you have a treat in store. Back by around 8:30, or a little later if extended. To ...Continue Reading

I’LL MAKE IT SIMPLE*Three night rides in three days. I’ll go out all three nights this weekend because I need the exercise and it’s way too hot to ride in the daytime. Starting tonight. Join me if you wish. (Saturday forecast for thundershowers in the afternoon. Keep an eye on the weather and make your own decision.)Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Start at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills at 6:00 p.m. *sharp*. We’ll decide where to go at the start point, but no more than 30km. We rarely ask you to RSVP for ...Continue Reading
