BEAT THE HEAT**with***HALF-FAST*The forecast for this weekend is very very hot. Exercising in this kind of heat is unwise and can even be fatal. But this doesn’t mean we don’t need exercise, so we will offer three rides during the less-sizzling hours. Like early in the morning and after sundown. While one of the three weather sites I monitor predicts a chance of scattered thundershowers for Saturday afternoon, I’m going to pencil in a night ride to Jonan Jima in the evening. This will start at 7:00 p.m. and may be ...Continue Reading

SUMMER *…seems to be holding off for a bit longer, with temps this weekend at 28 or 29. Lots of humidity, though, so be sure to keep hydrated, and don’t forget the sunscreen. NOTE: When the temps top 32 or so, we shift to night rides, starting at 6:00 p.m. And ride leaders should remember that we won’t publicize daytime hill-climbs and such in the very hot weather. So this week a Saturday run to Odaiba and a Sunday Tama River loop. Also Peter has planned one of his scenic hill-climbs for Saturday. *S ...Continue Reading

A LITTLE*RAIN*…forecast for Saturday night, but not during the hours we ride. Otherwise a pair of fairly warm (29-30) and dry, partly cloudy days coming up this weekend. And it seems the rainy season will arrive soon, so we need to get out there soonest and pedal our asses around Tokyo. So a jaunt to Jonan Jima on Saturday and an Odaiba Plus on Sunday. *DON’T FORGET THE SUNSCREEN!*Thanks*...to everyone who helped make last Saturday night’s Tokyo Bay Cruise such a success. Especially Marcus and Miu. We’ll likely do ...Continue Reading

TO SEA! TO SEA! Things looking good for Saturday evening’s Tokyo Bay Cruise. Over 60 people so far. Nice and warm and dry. But there’s still space for a few more, so if you’re been procrastinating, now’s the time to sign up. Details attached. So it will be a memorable evening on the bay, but that doesn’t mean we stop cycling, especially with weather this good (25-28 degrees, partly to mostly cloudy). So I’m going to bookend the cruise with a pair of short rides, Saturday to Jonan Jima and Sunday to Odaiba. DON’T FORG ...Continue Reading

SUNDAY …looking a bit wet this weekend, but scheduled for Saturday is Peter’s all-day charity ride. Details in last week’s bulletin, sent out on the 24th. Also on Saturday, those up for a shorter jaunt can join me on a regular ride out to Odaiba. Tokyo Bay Cruise VI If you’ve been waiting for a weather forecast before committing to our evening cruise on Saturday the 8th, we are now informed that it will be warm (about 23 at sailing time) and dry. Truthfully, we need about 10 more people to make this work, so I’m aski ...Continue Reading

THREE RIDES …on offer this lovely weekend (Saturday 29 and sunny, Sunday 25 but cloudy). On Saturday Brian will lead one of our classic all-day rides, down around the Miura Peninsula. Bike bag required for the train ride. Alas, technical and scheduling reasons prevent me from taking part, but I highly recommend this ride. Meanwhile, I’ll keep it closer to home on the same day with a 35-km Jonan Jima jaunt, and on Sunday we’ll do a 50-km Odaiba Plus. A big THANKS ...to James for holding things together during my rece ...Continue Reading
