Okay, bikers, *The forecast for Sunday is improving by the hour. So let’s get out there for a few Ks with a Tama River loop. Bring rain gear just in case. We got enjoyably soaked las Sunday night when the forecast was for dry weather. We'll start earlier than usual, at 9:00 a.m., to take advantage of the cooler morning temps and get back before the threatened “PM thundershowers.” Here’s the deets:Sunday Tama Loop*Intermediate-level, 55km, easy but fast. Start at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills at 9:00 ...Continue Reading

Well, hell.*Another probably wet weekend. Saturday looks totally rainy, again, but Sunday we may be able to get in a ride between the raindrops. I’ll send out a note Saturday afternoon if the weather looks even marginally cooperative. It would be an early start (around 9 a.m.) Odaiba ride. That’s all I have. The rest of this note is an advance notice from Thien Che about an upcoming century (miles) he’s panning on September 26th.Ciao for now,Il Padrone, 090-5813-6721=========================Time: *Meet at *08: ...Continue Reading

So…Sunday Night Jonan Ride*Start at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills at 6:00 p.m. for a quick and easy 30-km jaunt out to Jonan Jima seaside park, across from Haneda Airport. Back by 9:00 or so. Monsoon, intense heat, and now typhoons*You’d think the weather gods don’t want us to go out and get our exercise (and beer).Still, though, ever hopefu, we persevere. James will do a pre-storm dawn ride on Saturday, and I may do something Sunday afternoon or evening if the scattered thunderstorms scatter in a different direction. Stay tuned.About the masks.* I don’t like them any more than you do. But please don’t make me be the guy who has to remind people to wear them properly. They’re not called “neck masks.&q ...Continue Reading

Hot! Hot! Hot!*Is what the weather remains, with a pair of 34-degree-plus days coming up this weekend. So we’ll stick with our early and/or late rides and stay out of the noonday sun.I’ll take an adventurous group out to the “Dinosaur Bridge” on Saturday night and do an easy lope out to Odaiba on Sunday night. James will also do a jaunt out to Jonan Jima very early Saturday.Masks a must.*Saturday Jonan Jima Morning Ride*Leave the Grand Hyatt Roppongi Hills at 6:00 a.m. sharp*.Bring: WATER, HELMET, FACEMASKPac ...Continue Reading

Frustrated riders, *I’m going to go out on a limb here and schedule a night ride to Jonan Jima this evening. If one of those elusive “scattered thundershowers” catches us, well, we’ll get a little wet. Better than sitting home and eating.Start at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills at 6:00 p.m.. 30 km, back by 9:00 or so. Pray to the Thunder Gods.Il Padrone, 090-5813-6721 -- Thank you for being on our list. You can Unsubscribe at any time. ...Continue Reading

Sweaty cyclists*This weekend is kind of at the mercy of the weather. James will do a very early run out to Jonan on Saturday morning. In the evening, I’ll ask the thunder gods to hold off until later so we can get in a combination short night ride/sayonara party without getting too wet. Our friend Martin Rowse is leaving soon and has invited us to the Canal Cafe in Iidabashi ( https://www.canalcafe.jp/about-us?fbclid=IwAR1ru_vZrGWP8LWxRWvWLu5MOLPkbEnqfiyXhWXVd6d0oGX89H2xPhMhgnE ) for a brew or two. Night Riders!*That sounds so cool. This weekend we will continue our heat-beating tactics with a pair of evening rides and one very early jaunt. The temps are forecast to be as high as 38 degrees (before the “feels like" bump), so I really don’t recommend strenuous exercise during the middle of the day. James will do a very early ride to Jonan Saturday morning, and I’ll follow that in the evening with one to the Dinosaur Bridge out by Wakasu Park. Sunday night a ride to Odaiba. Make sure your bike lamps ...Continue Reading

Too damn hot*…to ride in the noonday sun. Sure, cycling is beneficial both physically and mentally, but what good is that if you risk sunstroke? It’s going to be as hot as 35 degrees this weekend. So we’ll beat the heat with two NIGHT RIDES and one very early morning ride. So make sure your bike lamps have fresh batteries and we’re good to ride gently into the night.Masks up, pleaseSaturday - Jonan Beat the Heat Ride. *Start at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills at 6:00 a.m. SHARP*.
