THE*LAST*RIDE**(this year)*And the first. The latest weather forecast for Saturday is 14 degrees, sunny and moderate wind. So let’s do an Odaiba Plus ride. Sunday looks wet, but on Monday (12 deg., partly cloudy and quite windy) Brian will lead his traditional New Year’s Day Yamanote Loop ride. You’re going to need some exercise to counteract all the upcoming year-end feasting and revelry. *Saturday Odaiba Plus*Our regular jaunt out to the Beach by the Bay for a Brew or Two, but with 15km tacked on to the fron ...Continue Reading

Saturday Odaiba

December 21st 2023 MDT

*NINE*…degrees on Saturday but brilliantly sunny, which falls within our parameters for a winter ride. So a quick, keep-fit pedal out to the Beach by the Bay for a Brew or Two. Note: Next Saturday’s forecast is for a high of 14 degrees, so there could well be a 50-km Odaiba Plus that day.Odaiba Jaunt*Start at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills at 11:00 a.m. 30km, easy. Back by 2:00 or so. *Coffee*.Lead a Ride!*It’s not just me thinking up rides to do. Anyone can share his or her favorite ride. Just jot down the ...Continue Reading

LAST*WARM *DAY*Saturday looking like the last warmish biking day this year before we revert to our Winter Mode of mostly short out-and-back rides just to keep those biking muscles toned. Saturday could get to 20 degrees or more but with little sun, while Sunday may be 6 or 7 degrees cooler but with more sun. So it’s anyone’s guess which day will be more pleasant. So at the risk of sounding repetitive,* I’m going to again do an Odaiba Plus on Saturday and a Jonan Jaunt on Sunday.  Kind of rev ...Continue Reading

18 *~ *19*…degrees is what, phenomenally, we can expect this December weekend, with mostly sunny skies and little wind. So unpack the cycling shorts and sunscreen and let’s go out and pedal our asses around Tokyo for a while. Two “plus” rides then, one to Jonan and the other to Odaiba. Bring along an eco bag for any convenience store lunches. Saturday Jonan Jima Plus*The usual ride out to the little beach park across from Haneda Airport, but with about 5km tacked on just for the hell of it. ...Continue Reading

COOL *BUT *SUNNY*…is the forecast this weekend, and we have three rides to get you outdoors and excercising. Temps are 12 on Saturday and 14 on Sunday. Dress appropriately. So for a variety of reasons, I’ll limit myself to two 30-km jaunts, while Brian will offer on Sunday his famed, 80-km Headwaters of the Tsurumi ride. Please bring along an eco-bag for any convenience store lunches, as Half-Fast frowns seriously on single-use plastic bags.*Saturday Jonan Jima Jaunt*Start at the Grand Hyatt in Roppo ...Continue Reading

Saturday Odaiba

Sunday cloudy, even cooler, with some AM rain forecast, so nothing planned.*Saturday Odaiba Ride*Start at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills at 11:00 a.m. for an easy, 30-km ride out to the beach by the bay for a brew or two. CARPE DIEM*Is what we need to do this sunny weekend, as next Saturday and Sunday are not looking so bike-friendly as of this writing. So I’m thinking a quick run out to Jonan on Saturday and a slightly more ambitious Odaiba Plus on Sunday. Please bring along an eco-bag for any convenience store lunches. *Saturday Jonan Jima Beginners’*A quick, 30-km jaunt out to the beach park across from Haneda Airport. Start at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills at 11:00 a.m. The weather at the start point will be 15 degrees, ...Continue Reading

Saturday Odaiba

November 9th 2023 MDT

*SUMMER*…it would seem, is finally over. But we still need fresh air and exercise. Saturday looks like this weekend’s least wet day, so our usual jaunt out to Odaiba. But the temps will be hovering around 15 degrees, so time to break out the cold-weather gear. Saturday Odaiba Beginners*Start at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills at 11:00 a.m. for a quick, 30km ride out to the beach by the bay for a beer. Back by around 2:00. Post-ride pub a possibility. Coffee. That’s all I got.Il Padrone, 090-5813-6721 -- Thank ...Continue Reading

EVEN BETTER … than last weekend is what the weather will be on Saturday (23 degrees) and Sunday (20). So we have three rides planned. James will lead a Tama Loop ride on Saturday with a possible brief hook-up with Paul, who has just been released from hospital. On the same day, Josh and Todd will stage their annual Chichibu Halloween Ghost Town ride. And on Sunday I’ll do an Odaiba jaunt. All covid restrictions are dropped. Please bring along an eco-bag for your convenience store lunches. Half-fast frowns on single- ...Continue Reading
