Between the raindrops

June 17th 2021 MDT

*HAPPY**TSUYU**TSUYU*Yep, Sayaka, our NHK weather girl, tells me the rainy season has officially arrived in Tokyo. Saturday looks like a washout, and I have a medical appointment on Sunday. But Paul has humbly leapt into the breach and will lead a modified Tama River ride on Sunday with a LATE START time (1:00) to avoid the forecast morning showers.Sunday Afternoon Tama River RideAvoiding today`s morning rain showers, we will do a modified version of our ever-popular ride along the Tama River. Start at Ko ...Continue Reading

The Mask Thing

June 11th 2021 MDT

Riders,Thanks to those who sent in their views on wearing masks while riding. Responses were 95% in favor of continuing on as we are. This means masking up while riding (though it’s acceptable to pull it down a bit when powering up a hill or something to gulp oxygen) and suitable social distancing while on breaks. (One fellow helpfully shared that he doesn’t like masks. As if there are people who do.)Note: A corollary of this is that these rules apply to all Half-Fast rides, even those I don’t lead, where I’m not person ...Continue Reading

Rides, 5, 6

June 3rd 2021 MDT

Bike Poll!*What are your thoughts on face masks while riding? This weekend will be cloudy and mostly dry daytimes. Saturday we’ll do the usual beginners’ ride to Odaiba, and Sunday i’m thinking a 55-km Tama River loop, but as “a.m. showers” are forecast, possibly a slightly later start, say at noon. Watch for a note about this late Saturday。*Masks up, please,* and *bring an eco-bag *for your convenience store lunches. Half-Fast frowns on single-use plastic bags. Consequences.*Saturday Odaiba Beginners’*Our usual 30-km ja ...Continue Reading

Rides 29, 30

May 27th 2021 MDT

*Lookin’ fine*…weatherwise this weekend, with temps in the high 20s and only a wee possibility of thundershowers late Sunday. So the usual Odaiba run on Saturday, and for Sunday, Josh has whipped up an adventurous journey out Takao way.Masks up, please. And don’t forget your eco-bag. We frown on anyone that accepts a single-use plastic bag from a convenience store. *Saturday Odaiba Beginners’*Start at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills at 11:00 a.m. for an easy, 30-km lope out to the magical island in the bay f ...Continue Reading

Rides, 22 ,23

May 20th 2021 MDT

Astoundingly,*…this mini-rainy season we’ve been slogging through all week will give way to some supremely bikeable weather this weekend, with temps around 25 and minor winds. At this writing, rain is forecast for the following weekend, so all the more reason to get out and pedal our asses around the super city. Also, I won’t be planning any rides on the 30th for the best of medical reasons (getting a Pfizer jab), so anyone who wants to lead a ride that day, weather permitting, let me know. So a Saturday Odaiba run ...Continue Reading

Saturday Odaiba

May 13th 2021 MDT

*Can’t tell*…what Sunday will be like in this time of “changeable weather,” but Saturday looks fine for our usual keep-fit run out to Odaiba. I may still schedule a Sunday ride, but not until I get a better idea of the precipitation situation. If I do, I’ll send out a post Saturday evening. The ride will be another beginners’ effort, 30-km, straight out to Jonan Jima and back.Masks up, please*. And bring an eco-bag* for your convenience store lunch. New members may not know yet that we don’t accept single-use plastic ba ...Continue Reading

*Warm **& **Dry*That’s how I like my cycling weather, so how about a couple of our standard rides? (Motto: The routes may be the same but the rides are always different.) Saturday beginners’ to Odaiba and a Sunday Tama River loop. The forecast is for temps as high as 28 degrees, partly to mostly cloudy, but with possible high winds on Sunday. *Masks up, please. *And bring an eco-bag *for your convenience store lunch. Not optional. *Saturday Odaiba Beginners’*Start from the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hil ...Continue Reading

Holiday Rides

May 2nd 2021 MDT

NO WORK*NICE WEATHER*Now that’s a ticket to ride if I ever saw one. With Monday-Wednesday national holidays, traffic will be down, and there’s little precipitation forecast (though Wednesday will be a bit blowy) I have to work Monday and Wednesday, but will do a Kasai Rinkai ride on Tuesday,And Paul has humbly leapt into the breach with a Monday ride up to Lake Tama.Wednesday is still open if anyone wants to lead a ride that day; let me know and I’ll forward your note.Masks up, please, *and bring an eco-bag *for your co ...Continue Reading
