Sunday Kasai

May 14th 2020 MDT

Riders*Saturday looking quite wet, but Sunday much better at 27 degrees and sunny. So a beginners’ plus jaunt out to Kasai Rinkai seaside park, near Disneyland. No stops (save once at a toilet), face masks to be worn at all times, and keep a distance of two meters when stopped. Sunday Kasai Rinkai Beginners’ Plus*So named as it’s half again as far as our beginners’ rides. I’m going to tweak this one a bit, perhaps even go out to the Dinosaur Bridge. Start at 11:00 a.m. at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills. Distance ...Continue Reading

What the hell

April 24th 2020 MDT

Stir-crazy bikers*I’ve been doing solo runs out to Odaiba and Kasai Rinkai these past few weeks, and occasionally on weekdays, as the vehicular traffic levels are way down. Now, of course I would never suggest an organized ride in these times, but if there were anyone at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills when I pass by there at 11:00 a.m. Saturday and Sunday (sharp; no grace period), I think it’d be okay to follow me. Good for the mind, body and immune system. NO breaks, NO convenience stores, NO socializing except whil ...Continue Reading

Saturday rides

April 3rd 2020 MDT

The loneliness of the *social-distanced cyclist*If I have to stay home another weekend I’m going to punch someone. So we have two rides planned for Saturday (none Sunday). Jack will take a group of ambitious riders willing to take a long train ride on a lengthy hill-climb, and I’ll keep things exciting closer to home with a beginners’ ride out to Odaiba. But please observe social-distancing common sense. Riders MUST bring a face mask and wear it at the meet-up and during breaks. But not necessarily while riding. An ...Continue Reading

No rides

March 26th 2020 MDT

Homebound Bikers*Both Saturday and Sunday look pretty wet and anyway the Tokyo governor has asked us to stay home this weekend. So no rides from me. If you really need exercise, by all means go out for a ride, but perhaps best to do it alone. We’ll probably attempt some social-distanced rides next weekend.Il Padrone, 090-5813-6721=========================On an unrelated note, some repatriating friends have decided at the last minute to sell their bikes rather than take them along. And they’re motivated as they want to s ...Continue Reading

Today's Hanami Ride

March 21st 2020 MDT

To those of you planning to join me on today’s ride out to Jonan Jima:I’m going to tweak the ride a bit. Once we get past the double blue bridge in Shinagawa, we’ll take a different route out to Jonan. We will not stop at the usual convenience store, instead proceed straight to the beach (about 12;20).We won’t stop there, either, just swing by in case anyone is trying to rendezvous there. Then we’ll head back the usual way, but stop for supplies at a convenience store near the Ota-ku baseball stadium. Then we’ll head int ...Continue Reading
