Weekend Rides (or not)

June 12th 2020 MDT

Happy Tsuyu Tsuyu!*Looking wet, wet, wet this weekend. Saturday pretty much a write-off,  but “scattered thundershowers” forecast for Sunday, so maybe we can get a ride in. I’ll monitor the weather sites and send out a note Saturday night if a Sunday ride is a go. Stay dry (and  healthy)Il Padrone, 090-5813-6721 -- Thank you for being on our list. Between the raindrops*Okay, there’ll be some thundershowers Saturday evening and Sunday morning. Rides, 30, 31

May 28th 2020 MDT

Our Prime Minister*…has lifted the country-wide state of emergency, including Tokyo. That doesn’t mean things are back to normal, but I think we can consider taking properly distanced rest stops and venturing into convenience stores (read: beer). But we’ll keep our faces covered for the time being. So two rides this beautiful weekend, the usual hop out to Odaiba on Saturday and a Kasai Rinkai adventure on Sunday. Saturday Odaiba Beginners’*Start at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills for an easy 30-km lope out to th ...Continue Reading

Sunday Tama Loop

May 21st 2020 MDT

Pent-up pedalers*Much like last weekend, Saturday looking wet, but Sunday much nicer, so…a Modified Tama River Loop. *Jonan Jima seaside park is apparently closed, so we’ll not be heading out that way, shortening the ride to about 50km. Non-stop save for a few potty breaks. As usual, face masks mandatory* at all times, and keep a two meter distance when stopped. This will also serve as a sayonara ride for six-year member Chris Cornwall, who’ll be heading back to Chicago next week. Thanks, Chris! The detai ...Continue Reading

Sunday Kasai

May 14th 2020 MDT

Riders*Saturday looking quite wet, but Sunday much better at 27 degrees and sunny. So a beginners’ plus jaunt out to Kasai Rinkai seaside park, near Disneyland. No stops (save once at a toilet), face masks to be worn at all times, and keep a distance of two meters when stopped. Sunday Kasai Rinkai Beginners’ Plus*So named as it’s half again as far as our beginners’ rides. I’m going to tweak this one a bit, perhaps even go out to the Dinosaur Bridge. Start at 11:00 a.m. at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills. Distance ...Continue Reading

What the hell

April 24th 2020 MDT

Stir-crazy bikers*I’ve been doing solo runs out to Odaiba and Kasai Rinkai these past few weeks, and occasionally on weekdays, as the vehicular traffic levels are way down. Now, of course I would never suggest an organized ride in these times, but if there were anyone at the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills when I pass by there at 11:00 a.m. Saturday and Sunday (sharp; no grace period), I think it’d be okay to follow me. Good for the mind, body and immune system. NO breaks, NO convenience stores, NO socializing except whil ...Continue Reading
